Mercari Fee Calculator

The 10% fee on item plus buyer-paid shipping, the buyer's side of the bill, and the price that nets your target — in one place.

The short answer

Formula. Since January 6, 2025: fee = 10% × (item price + buyer-paid shipping); payout = total − fee.

Example. A $50 item with $8 buyer-paid shipping owes $5.80 in fees — the seller is paid $52.20.

How the math works

Mercari's seller side is now refreshingly single: a 10% selling fee on the completed item price plus any shipping the buyer paid, effective January 6, 2025, with no separate payment-processing fee. The fee follows the shipping the same way marketplace fees always do — a $50 item with $8 buyer-paid shipping is a $58 fee base, so $5.80 in fees and $52.20 landing with you. Listings created before the change still settle under the old stack (10% + 2.9% + $0.30 processing), which is why the calculator keeps that option.

The buyer's side matters to your pricing psychology. Buyers pay their own buyer protection fee — about 3.6% — on top of the item and shipping, so the number a buyer sees at checkout runs ~3.6% above your listing. You never pay it, but you feel it: at checkout your $50 + $8 listing shows as about $60.09 to the buyer, and that rounding of perception is worth knowing when you compare your price against competitors. The calculator prints that buyer total as an information line.

The reverse mode is one division with the fee rate: price = target ÷ (1 − 10%) − shipping. To pocket $45 with $8 buyer-paid shipping, list at $42.00 ($50 total, $5 fee, $45 net). What this arithmetic cannot fix is the other costs outside Mercari's fee: your actual shipping label (Mercari offers label pricing that comes out of your payout if you use theirs), packaging, and the time of the post office run — price resellers who last use daily do the full-cost version of this math, and their floor is usually higher than they first guessed.

Mercari fee FAQs

Does Mercari charge the 10% on shipping?

Yes, on shipping the buyer pays. If you offer free shipping, the fee base is just the item price — but you are then eating the label cost out of the payout, so the effective fee is worse. The calculator shows both paths via the shipping box.

What happened to the 2.9% + $0.30 processing fee?

It disappeared from the seller side on January 6, 2025, folded into the flat 10% and shifted to buyers as the buyer protection fee. Old listings settled under the old rules — hence the pre-2025 option here.

Are there listing fees on Mercari?

No. Listings are free and renew; the fee is charged only on completed sales. There can be small fees for optional listing upgrades and for instant payout transfers — the calculator models the standard sale.

How does this compare to eBay or Poshmark fees?

Mechanisms differ: eBay charges roughly 13–15% all-in for most categories, Poshmark a flat 20% above $15, Mercari the flat 10%. Run the same item through each platform's math — including who subsidizes shipping — before choosing where to list.
